QUALITY CHUB FISHING

There have been some lovely Chub being caught of late on our river stretches. Below Eldridges Lock, Ensfield Bridge and above the Six Arches have all produced fish of 4lb+ recently. Larry Howard and Lee Wakeman enjoyed fishing the new swims upstream of the Six Arches. Larry is hoping to bag a 5lb fish before the end of the season.

RECENT CAPTURES

There have been some good catches all around our waters recently. The New Lagoon continues to fish well, Pete Groombridge, Ben Groombridge and Simon Farrer all enjoyed a great day’s sport catching Tench, Bream and Carp. Rob Davis had Bream to 5lb, Tench to 3lb 8oz and Carp to 6lb.
Jason Craven, Neal Rogers and Austin Battell also enjoyed some great sport on the New Lagoon, Austin catching ten fish over 4lb which included Carp, Bream and Tench.

Jim Bosworth legered a prawn and landed a PB Chub of 5lb 13oz at Ensfield Bridge. Duncan Battell and Mark Roe had a short morning session at Ensfield Bridge in the coloured water and had some surprising predator action with Pike and Perch.

Ben Groombridge had a nice 14lb 7oz Pike out of the river above Lucifer Bridge. Jon Vass and Andy Bungay also enjoyed some good Pike fishing on the river and Ballast Pit.

NEW ADDITIONS TO BARDEN LAKE

The Society recently introduced 8 new Carp to Barden Lake which were part of the Society’s long term stocking plan. The fish ranged from 10lb 10oz to 20lb 7oz and were all microchipped, photographed and treated before their introduction. One of the fish was originally stocked into the Old Ballast Pit at 4lb 6oz two years ago and now weighs 17lb 4oz and was also caught within a week of being introduced to Barden Lake. Some great growth rate as another fish was 5lb 8oz two years ago and now weighs 15lb 4oz.

WORK PARTY RESULTS

Some great work was carried out on our recent work parties. Lots of clearing around Longfield Lake to make access easier and the swims more comfortable. There will be more work going on around Longfield Lake at the next work party in March. There was also some fantastic snag clearing on the Old Ballast Pit by Larry and Ben using a winch system. Lots of line, leads and poor rigs were removed.
