A big thank you to Craig, Josh, Alex, Karl, Gordon, Chris, Olly, Ryan and Kristy for a sterling days work party on the Ballast Pit to remove some of the lilies choking the swims. Gordon and Chris concentrated on clearing the easy access platforms using the traditional tried and tested method of rake dragging and hard graft to remove the worst of the stalks in these swims. The rest of the crew tried out a new method of rhizome removal on the swims heading up the lake which required a lot more heavy duty equipment and a lot of effort. This system is a lot slower than just removing the stalks but the outcome should last a lot longer as the roots of the lilies are removed as well. Progress was slow because the amount of rhizomes present in the water but the results proved that the system is a worthwhile exercise and will be continued on a monthly basis periodically to gain control of the growth and hopefully take control of it. The party successfully cleared the first three swims and I think that the photographs confirm what a successful day it was and well done lads for all of your efforts a great days work.
